ARUSHA: UNESCO, in collaboration with the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), is strengthening the digital skills of 64 government secondary school teachers from Arusha City and Arusha District through a four-day ICT training programme.
The training, taking place at Gold Crest Hotel in Arusha from September 1–4, 2026, is being implemented under the ICT Transforming Education in Africa – Phase III Project, supported through the Korean Funds-in-Trust (KFIT).
The programme is equipping teachers with practical skills to effectively integrate ICT into teaching, learning and assessment, as well as to develop digital learning content and use emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The training also covers Open Educational Resources (OER), digital learning platforms, online information-search skills, digital content development and the use of technology in curriculum implementation.
Speaking during the opening of the training, Head of the Education Sector at the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Office, Dr Faith Shayo, urged participants to share the knowledge and skills acquired with their fellow teachers after returning to their schools.
“We expect you to share what you learn here with your fellow teachers so that they can also keep pace with these transformations in education,” she said.
The initiative adopts a cascade training approach, through which trained teachers are expected to support and build the digital capacity of other teachers in their respective schools.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to strengthen teachers’ digital competencies and ensure that educators are better prepared to respond to the changing demands of 21st-century education.
