The Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and Other International Organisations, H.E. Dr Abdallah Saleh Possi led the Tanzanian delegation and participated in the Global Services Forum, held during the sixteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XVI) in Geneva.
The Global Services Forum focused on strategies for harnessing the services sector to promote structural transformation, economic diversification, and inclusive growth in developing countries.
For Tanzania, trade-in services are increasingly vital to economic growth and resilience. Services contribute significantly to national GDP, employment, and export earnings while supporting productive sectors such as agriculture, industry, and tourism through improved connectivity, finance, logistics, and technology. As Tanzania pursues its Vision 2050 and implements the National Trade Policy (2023), strengthening trade in services is central to enhancing competitiveness, promoting digital transformation, and deepening regional integration under the AfCFTA.
